Examinations for Marine Pilots

Examinations for coast pilots will be conducted by the Pacific Pilotage Authority in September 2026, to establish a list of applicants eligible to become apprentice marine pilots in the coastal waters (Areas 2, 3, 4 and 5) of the Pacific Pilotage Region. 

 

For information on certification and sea-time requirements, please refer to the General Pilotage Regulations. 

 

Applicants must be:

 

  • Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents 

  • willing to obtain a Police Information Check 

  • willing to undergo a medical examination to assess mental and physical fitness to perform the duties of a marine pilot.

 

Applicants who believe they are qualified should submit a written request for an application package prior to 1530 hrs on Monday, April 6, 2026, by email to exams@ppa.gc.ca or by post to:
